Description:
Although this trinket box is small, it is very unusual and quite extraordinary. It is a fireplace with a child kneeling on the mantel peering into the framed mirror over the mantel. The front supports are in the shape of griffins additionally illustrated in the photo from the side. The protruding hearth has a rounded fender in the front. The child's face is very finely executed with excellent detailing for such a tiny size--shoes are painted orange and there is much gold gilt decorations throughout. This is a very early German-made porcelain box made from hand-pressed glazed porcelain, c. 1850. Very nice condition with no breaks. Overall height is 2 1/2" and width is 1 1/2".
