Description:
This papier mache Civil War era Army hat is one of the best early items I've ever had. Made c. 1862-65, it is a truely fantastic collector's item for those who collect military, early miniatures or early hats. Both sides are shown in the photos and also the inside. The hat is black with a white ribbon at the brim and has a very early patina. Written with a quill pen in early ink is hand written on the inside: Major US Army Robert L. Burk. On the ribbon on the brim is written U.S. Army. This miniature U.S. Army Major's military hat can be displayed on its own or with a doll. The condition is wonderful especially considering the age of this hat with just minor paint rubs. Opening for the head is 2" diameter. The brim from front to back is 4 3/8". and height is 1 3/4". Front of brim is slighty curled up just like the real hats. These wonderful early miniatures from the mid-1800's Civil War era are just so difficult to find; fantastic piece of Americana and a rare item for the advanced collector.
