Description:
Ah, so rare mid-century Modern Gottschalk petite dollhouse with super-rare garden and swimming pool! Made in Germany during the 1950's. Marked with a 4 digit number underneath which is number 105? and shown in one of the photos. The garden has a green flocked surface with the addition of a swimming pool or garden pond. The surface of the water is papier mache painted like water and surrounded by papier mache painted bricks. It also has a tree, which is removable, in the center with a base having a hole where the tree is inserted. The large glass picture window has a long flowerbox with its original flowers and opposite on the side wall is an outdoor fireplace, which is painted gray and has painted brick on the wall and the chimney poking above the flat roof. The exterior of the house and side garden walls are painted a very pale pink while the roof is red, just like many Red Roof Gottschalk dollhouses. The flat roof also has a walled section and I have seen some of these with more patio furniture, similar to a rooftop patio. The interior has the modern open floor plan which can be furnished in different sections. The step back area has a large picture glass window which actually opens by the handle. All walls have the original wallpaper which is beige with white dots. The floor is papered with a modern design which look to represent square marble tiles with multiple bright colored small tiles interspersed, which include red, green, blue, purple and beige. Those portions of the floor which are not papered (tile) or green flocked (grass) have been painted a nice dark beige. The house includes all the furnishings that are shown, which are: interior--modern chair and side table, clock, red library table, and tiny brass teapot with cover and two pieces of dark moss green carpeting; exterior--matching 3-piece metal and striped canvas outdoor furniture and brass fireplace equipment with log holder. The dollhouse is all original with original paint and papers, albeit, there is some wear and aging. The paper flooring on the interior has some sections that are missing, but these are nicely covered up with the larger carpet. The wallpaper also has a few issues. but again these can be disguised with furniture. The garden area folds up by hinges on the side. Size is 17 1/2" deep with garden open, 18" wide, and approximately 7 1/8" high. The materials of the house are wood, papier mache, flocking and paper. These Gottschalk mid-century houses are so difficult to find. Research has been done by Swantje Kohler and Rebecca Green on these hard-to-find dollhouses. The purchaser would need to keep in mind that there would also be shipping and insurance costs.
