Very Early Andirons and Poker for Early Fireplace # 199-05 SOLD

Status: Sold
Description:
This early set of andirons and long poker was made for a fireplace with a large opening. They are hand wrought, very early, I believe around the 1870's era. The metal material underneath looks to be copper which has been black enameled; there is aging and a little bit of wear and some greening where the enameling is worn, which leads me to think that it is copper. It is all hand wrought and nicely made, with that great early patina. The poker is in a pitch-fork shape and the tips are flattened and pointy. The andirons have a nicely curved top. This is a great early set and very hard to find. Andirons are 2 1/4" high and 1 1/2" deep; the poker is 4 3/8" long. I believe these are English made.
