Description:
Tiny, all original German peg-wooden doll with painted features, jointed at the neck and legs and wearing her original lavender color silk dress and matching hat and lace apron. She is approximately a tiny 3/4" high. Accompanying her is a dark blue leather book with a tiny wire clasp, with many tiny pages with hand written writing inside, but the writing is too small for me to read, even with a magnifying glass. The cover has a title: Recessional and the next word I cannot make out...it is that tiny. Both are within a tiny old box with imprinted writing: Wilh. Schwarz, Elfenbeinschnitzer, Interlaken. The doll and tiny book sit inside the box on top of very old cotton wool. This grouping came out of an estate in Maine. Rare and so unusual. c. 1885-90 period. The box is 1 1/8" x 1 1/4". All in lovely condition. Perfect as a toy for a dollhouse child; also pictured on top of a marble-top early Germany dollhouse table for size comparison.
