Description:
Fabulous doll's accessory holding lovely early doll items, including a sealed and labeled perfume bottle, a tiny glass bead necklace, wooden spool with silk thread, and silk bow. This very early polychrome box is a perfect example of the work of the early European craftsmen/artists in a very unusual triangular shape--most early boxes were square or rectangular. Beautifully executed, all wood triangular box which is black lacquered or also referred to as Japanned. The background is black over which is painted lovely flowers in cream, blues, pinks and lined designs in cream and blues hand painted on the top and on all 3 sides. The label on the perfume bottle is in French and is also marked Paris--there are traces of dried perfume inside the bottle and it is a little gem even on its own, bottle is 1 1/8" high, old wooden thread spool is slightly over 1/2", and the blue glass beaded necklace is 1 1/4" long. All the tiny accessories come in the box and fit nearly inside when cover is closed. Made c. 1870 (or possibly even earlier), this beautiful accessory is great for the early French Fashion doll or German lady doll, or as an accessory for a larger scale dollhouse. Size of triangular box is 2 1/4" across the top and 4 3/8" long at the longest point from tip to tip. Very early and extremely lovely, one of the nicest doll accessories I have ever had. Beautiful condition, especially for its age.
